MeetDr. Doug Katz
Endodontist in Hooksett
Dr. Doug Katz graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in Political Science in 1988. Following an interest in environmental law, the realization that working with his hands and fascination with science led to dentistry. 6 years later, the requirements for admission to dental school and dental school itself were achieved by graduating from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Dental School, now simply known as Rutgers, in 1994. A year of General Practice Residency at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital was completed in 1995 and then the privilege of being accepted into the renowned post graduate endodontic program at Boston University, led by Dr. Herbert Schilder. This was the first choice in postgraduate programs because Dr. Schilder not only taught didactically and clinically, but laid down a foundation of excellence in practice and philosophy that holds true then, now, and apparently forever. The baseline of professional training came to fruition with earning the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in 1997. It was then time to really get to work.
Unable to escape the interest in politics, immediate participation in organized dentistry began with meetings, committees, and chair positions. Chairing the New Dentist Committee and leading the dental community as president of the Greater Manchester Dental Society were exciting and rewarding. Teaching and working at the residency program at the Manchester Veterans Administration Hospital was so profound, that even after the unfortunate dissolution of the residency, Katz Endodontics proudly continues its affiliation and lifeline for saving teeth for our disabled veterans. Dr. Katz has always maintained active membership to the American Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists, New Hampshire Dental Society, and the Greater Manchester Dental Society.
Since December of 1999 the practice in Hooksett receives an incredible amount of satisfaction and accolades in the forms of personal and professional successes. Practicing and working with dedicated, warm, truly intuitive, and exceptionally bright people as coworkers means that “working” doesn’t apply as much as the “caring for ourselves and others” during our time together. Obtaining multiple and continuous top votes in New Hampshire magazine from peers is a testament not to Dr. Katz alone but his team. Participation in continuing education has been the key ingredient to that success in many different ways. Recently in 2014 a team decision was made to help some of our “less enthusiastic” patients by obtaining additional training in moderate sedation techniques. This came to fruition in 2015 with a certificate from Duquesne University in Pittsburg, Pa, studying with one of the pioneers of in-office conscious sedation. Basic Life Support certificates for health care providers are maintained by all team members as are routine practice drills. Dr. Katz also is Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified.
Dentistry is a lifelong learning process that accelerates at swift speeds. Endodontics and its role in oral health and keeping your natural teeth is addressed by participation in Study Clubs. Both the Granite State Study club, a local component of the Seattle Study Club, and the Spear Education Study club have been integral parts of this process. Teaching old dogs new tricks is easy with these organized, up to date, well rounded, socially constructive, and literature rich meetings throughout the year.
Outside of the professional environment Dr. Katz spends time with his wife, Sarah, their three daughters, and the incredible outdoors.
